This lecture concerns five basic topics that debaters should consider before they go into competition. This is useful for debaters at all experience levels. The lecture was given at the Lawrence Debate Union at the University of Vermont in September 2009.

The speaker is Stephen Boyle, a debate coach at the University of Vermont. Stephen debated for University College Dublin and reached the elim rounds at WUDC twice, and won Hart House, Yale and the Irish Times Debates.
